2024 SENIOR TENNIS PLAYER SCHOLARSHIP

The Sierra Junior Tennis Association’s mission is to encourage youth to pursue their goals and highest dreams by succeeding in school and becoming responsible citizens through tennis.  This scholarship targets high school seniors pursuing an education at a community college, university or vocational school, and who have been tennis players in the Northern Nevada / Lake Tahoe region.

$3,500 in scholarships will be awarded this year to deserving high school seniors who have participated in United States Tennis Association (USTA), high school tennis or other organized youth tennis programs in the Greater Truckee Meadows area. Applications due February 28th, 2024.

USTA Foundation Scholarship Application

The USTA also offers an annual scholarship and we encourage those interested and eligible to apply The USTA Foundation awards scholarships to high school seniors who:

  • Demonstrate academic achievement (3.0 minimum GPA)
  • Perform community/volunteer service
  • The USTA Foundation strategic goals includes providing scholarships to support tennis and youth development, with priority given to students who participated in enrolled National Junior Tennis and Learning organizations (“NJTL Chapters”).
  • Demonstrate significant financial need (verified during two stage process; utilizing Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) information)

  • February 5, 2024 - Scholarship Application Opens
  • May 15, 2024 11:59ET - Scholarship Application Deadline
  • June 17, 2024 - Confirmation Form (Second Stage of the application)
  • July 1, 2024 - Award Notifications

University of Nevada Wolf Pack

SJTA is a proud partner of the Nevada Wolf Pack Tennis Teams! Cheer on the teams each season at the new at McArthur Tennis Center located off Valley Road on Dolly Drive adjacent to the Hixson Softball Park.

The new courts at McArthur Tennis Center are located near the Hixson Softball Park and the new field events area for the Wolf Pack women’s track & field program on the east end of the campus.  2017 marked the first time the Wolf Pack played on campus since the 1990’s.The facility will serve as practice and competition location for the Pack’s men’s and women’s tennis teams.

Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful Partnership

Thank you to everyone who volunteered with us on December 3, 2023 for our winter clean-up of Whitaker Park. We look forward to seeing everyone in the spring!

SJTA is pleased to be partnering with Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful by participating in their Adopt-A-Spot program. In 2021, we adopted Whitaker Park, just west of the University. Founded in 1937, Whitaker is one of Reno's oldest parks. Amenities include two tennis courts, playground, horseshoe court, picnic shelters, walking trails and dog park.
